History
Approximately
21,000 years ago, humans started to inhabit the area. Later on, this group of
people were replaced by Neolithic immigrants from northern China. Under the
rule of Songtsan Gampo (604-650 CE), the history of a unified Tibet begins as
well as the founding of Tibetan Empire. His series of reforms promoted the
establishment of a large and powerful empire. After series of separatist
activities throughout different periods, Tibet is one of the autonomous regions
of China these days.
Geography
There're
many of the world's tallest mountains in Tibet. Without doubt, Mount Everest is

Architecture
Tibetan
architecture is the combination of Chinese and Indian styles. Its
characteristics are also the reflection of Buddhist approach. The most
prominent feature of Tibetan architecture is that many of these houses and
monasteries are built on sunny and elevated sites facing the south. Most of
them are made of a mixture of cement, rocks and wood.
As the landmark of Tibet
, the Potala Palace is the representative of Tibetan architecture. It was built
by Songtsan Gampo as the gift for marring Tang Princess Wencheng. Previously,
it was the residence of the Dalai Lama, which contains more than one thousand
rooms within thirteen stories. Nowadays, it's a world-famous museum as well as
a World Heritage Site.
